The Kemp line  of our family tree ended with my third great grandfather, Nathaniel L.  Kemp, born 1774, died 1858.  For years all the family genealogists tried to make a positive connection with a father for Nathaniel. One small piece of evidence we had was old Nathan's marriage license to my third great grandmother, Margary Brashears. Nathan gave his name as Nathan Camp. We all suspected his father was Edmund Camp, son of Thomas Camp lll. But there was not positive proof and any genealogist worth his salt must have documented evidence. Well this went on for over twenty years......but one day, a forth cousin of mine, John Scott Kemp, was in a library working on old Nathan's father, when he happened on an article on DNA testing.  John got the idea to contact one of the Camp family, a well researched and documented family of genealogists whose pedigree included Thomas Camp lll. John Scott Kemp contacted several from that family and finally made arrangements with one Buck Camp to do the DNA testing. When the test was concluded it was determined that John Scott Kemp and Buck Camp had identical DNA. Their common ancestor was Thomas Camp. Edmund Camp is my fourth great grandfather. John Scot Kemp passed the word along to all the Kemp Family Genealogists and we have that line several generations farther along.
